10 Promising 2019 Video Game Rumours You Need To Know

5. If Anthem Flops, So Does Bioware

Bioware's February 2019 offering, Anthem, has a lot riding on it. Maybe too much in fact, considering the outlook on the game isn't the most positive right now.

Anthem is supposedly a 'online multiplayer action role-playing game', which feels like a lot of words to basically say 'it's Bioware's take on Destiny'. With modes like Battle Royale taking some hard flack for being in almost every release under the sun, and online multiplayer in general in a bit of a state with releases like Fallout 76 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Online coming with a fair share of problems, it seems that online isn't the safest place for games to be going in the near future.

Especially not for a company famed for their wonderful, fleshed out roleplaying games and not loot-grinding shooters.

Now, put that genre instability alongside the Mass Effect: Andromeda flop, and you've got a recipe for disaster. Anthem is supposedly the start of a 10 year journey for Bioware and EA, and the developer has put everything they have into bringing it to life. Early images and gameplay look promising - but then again, so did Andromeda.

Bioware have truly stuck their neck out on this one, and failure to recoup with the Anthem title is all but a death sentence for the beloved company.
