10 Promising Video Games That Totally Botched Their Launch
6. Mass Effect: Andromeda
Mass Effect is one of gaming's most celebrated RPG franchises, so when EA revealed that a new title - Andromeda - was in the works, fans were understandably excited. That excitement began to wane over time however as very little of the game was shown off. Finally, when it came time for the game to arrive, it became painfully obvious that something was amiss.
Over the course of the launch of Mass Effect: Andromeda, the game was ruthlessly mocked for the state in which it was shipped. It was rushed, unfinished and appallingly bad in a number of areas.
Most notably, consumers poked fun at the horrendous facial animations that made characters look like they were staring into space, and animations that were even worse than the ones featured in the series' last generation predecessors.
The situation was only worsened by EA promising a series of patches that would be released over the course of the weeks following launch. Except now people were beginning to feel cheated, as though they'd spent their money on an early access title rushed to meet a deadline.
Mass Effect's reputation has yet to recover, and Andromeda put the series on ice, at least for a little while anyway.
