10 Real Video Game Leaks Everyone Thought Were Fake

4. Titanfall Battle Royale

Thanks to the Legacy update in early May, Apex Legends just shattered its concurrent player record on Steam. It's one of the biggest games in the world right now, but back when it originally leaked, nobody believed that it was real.

A full year before its February 2019 launch, an "alleged minimap" for a rumoured Titanfall battle royale game started doing the rounds on Reddit. The comments on the original post range from "fake" to "IT'S NOT REAL" to "I really hope this doesn't happen", and the general consensus could be summed up with one word: "doubt".

However, not only was the rumour of a Titanfall battle royale true (Apex Legends is set within the Titanfall universe), but the minimap itself was pretty much bang on the money. There were several small changes between the leaked version and the final version ("Arena" was renamed "The Pit", for example), but in terms of its overall layout, it was accurate.

It's actually weird that people doubted this one, considering that a multiplayer-focused company like EA doing a battle royale game seems like an easy prospect to buy. Guess not.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
