10 Reasons Call Of Duty Must Be Boots On The Ground After Infinite Warfare
4. Vendetta's Aren't Healthy For Corperations, Much Less Franchises
You may be wondering, "What vendetta"? Well, it all goes back to Modern Warfare 3 and the two guys who now make Titanfall.
You see, the founders and creators of CoD had a bit of a falling out with Activision during the making of MW3. They claimed to have not been paid royalties for Modern Warfare 2, and began talking in secret with EA. Of course, Activision's head honchos didn't like that very much, and fired them both. Half of Infinity Ward's staff left with them, and they went on to form Respawn Entertainment. To nobody's surprise, Respawn worked with EA to publish Titanfall, a sci-fi 3D movement based FPS.
Of course, the world learned of Titanfall at E3 2013. So, fast forward to November 2014 and the release of Advanced Warfare, a sci-fi 3D movement game in the CoD franchise released in the same year as Titanfall.
Coincidence? Not really.
The Infinity Ward exodus was messy and bitter. Likewise, the 3D movement was so haphazard in AW that it very much felt like something added in later in the production cycle. It comes as no surprise at all that the focus on 3D movement and sci-fi has been part of some grand retaliation against both Respawn, and Activision's longtime competitor EA.
So the question is, will Activision continue on the sci-fi path in an attempt to compete with a fledgling game franchise that didn't do all that great to begin with, while also alienating their consumer base, or will they actually get the message that they're shooting themselves in the foot?
