10 Reasons God Of War Is The PS4's Best Exclusive

3. The Tone Is Perfect

Perhaps one of the biggest complaints about the previous God of War games is that they're a bit too dour for their own good: Kratos was aggressively self-serious to the point of unintentional comedy, and considering how inherently ridiculous the games were, they could've done with being a little less portentous.

The new God of War solves that problem in splendid fashion, then, by injecting well-placed humour into the adventure. For starters, weaponsmiths Sindri and Brok bring plenty of charm and personality to the table, while giving Kratos a buddy tagging along for the journey allows for plenty of humourous back-and-forth.

More than anything, though, the game frequently makes light of Kratos' severe nature, with his matter-of-fact, almost robotically stoic responses to Atreus and other characters proving an unexpected source of hilarity.

The game definitely isn't afraid to get serious either, but if feels decidedly more weighty and visceral when wrapped around a more human story with real moments of palpable levity.
