10 Reasons Nintendo Switch Online Is A Crushing Disappointment

6. The "Special Offers" Are Insulting

Nintendo promised ahead of their online service's launch that subscribers would benefit from "special offers", but on the basis of the first two introductory offers, they probably shouldn't have even bothered.

The first offer gives members the opportunity to purchase a fancy NES-styled pair of Joy-Cons for the low, low price of $59.99. What a privilege. For peripherals that won't start shipping until just before Christmas.

Also, because Nintendo apparently hates money, you can only buy these controllers if you're a Nintendo Switch Online member, and you can only order one per account. We'll get into the asinine reason for this in a moment.

The other offer is only for 12-month NSO members, and it's a download code for some NSO-branded jerseys and shoes in Splatoon 2.

When you heard "special offers", you were probably thinking exclusive eShop discounts, right? This is how it works on both PSN and Xbox Live, and considering how stingy eShop offers routinely are, it'd actually be a pretty neat selling point for NSO. But alas, no.

The fine print does say that Nintendo "may" include product discounts in the future, but if you take that with anything less than a truck-load of salt, more fool you.
