10 Reasons Persona 5 Is Already A Game Of The Year Contender

7. A Very Deep, Layered Cast Of Characters

The protagonist is a big indicator of how each character comes with a unique backstory and character arc. Despite seemingly being a silent hero for the player to project themselves onto, he exudes personality and quirk, actually having a lot more going on than just being a bland figure.

The rest of the Phantom Thieves are all great characters too, with Ryuji, Ann and Morgana making strong first impressions that only get better as the game goes on. Each of them has great depth to them and although they're all troubled people, they manage to be instantly likeable. The additional members of the team are also great, although the player naturally feels most connected to the first three.

Importantly, the side characters are just as interesting as the main cast. All of the teachers, villains, and people you interact with all provide laughs, feelings and genuine emotion which is something that truly deserves merit. Persona 5 makes you care about the people you meet than any other game this year. It truly stands out against the likes of Horizon or Zelda by having some of the most endearing characters in quite some time.

Jumping through portals, swinging through cities, destroying beings made of darkness and occasionally shooting a gun or two. I also write about games.
