10 Reasons The Last Of Us Is STILL The Best Video Game Of All Time

8. The Performances Have Never Been Beaten

The Uncharted series that preceded the Last of Us is perhaps the game most known for its approach to motion capture. Naughty Dog's dedication to ensuring their characters maintain a sense of realism is boundless, and the development of The Last of Us simply expanded on this process.

Much of the game's emotion rests on the performances of Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson (amongst a plethora of talented actors!), as the writing is far too polished to be delivered by anything more than the best, and make no mistake, the best is what The Last of Us achieves.

The rapport that must have been built between Baker and Johnson was surely substantial, as the dialogue between the two characters wonderfully elevates the game's plot to new heights for the medium.

The actors obviously love the characters they portray, and though they are far from similar to their digital counterparts, their commitment to serving them faithfully is apparent.

There are a multitude of poignant scenes in the story, yet the scene in the ranch house is the best example of how an actors performance is vital to achieving the scene's intended emotional weight.

Oscars don't go to video games, but this should be the exception.
