10 Reasons The Last Of Us Is STILL The Best Video Game Of All Time
5. A Compelling Multiplayer Component
As is customary with games of this nature, a half-hearted multiplayer component could be accessed from the game's main menu. However, in the case of The Last of Us, the online portion was not only enjoyable, but rewarding for those willing to master it.
The Last of Us' exemplary single-player was worth the price of admission alone, yet its prowess as one of gaming's very best perhaps leads to the online portion being overlooked.
Limiting games to just 8 players means the team must be tactical in order to be successful. Spraying bullets across the map in the hope that someone will be caught in the firing line is a sure-fire way to achieve precisely nothing, so an alternate approach must be taken to ensure victory.
This alternate path is littered with crafting items that are present in the single-player campaign, brutal hand-to-hand combat and interesting perks that suit any play-style.
The Last of Us' multiplayer manages to re-purpose the gameplay mechanics in the story side of the game and effortlessly transfer it to the competitive crucible of online play. No previous game has accomplished such a feat and it's likely none will again.
