10 Reasons The PlayStation Vita Was An Overlooked Gem
6. Dual Touch Screens
Touch screens have been an integral part of Handheld consoles and mobile phones for several years now. Brought into homes worldwide by the Nintendo DS back in 2004 it is hard to imagine a modern handheld without them. Sony must have looked at the competition and thought "Well they have a touch screen...so how about we have two!" and that is exactly what they did.
A lot of the games on the Vita used this feature in exciting ways, one notable example is Tearaway which was developed by the folks at Media Molecule, the creators of Little Big Planet. Tearaway fully applied the dual touch screens to affect its gameplay throughout the platformer. Being able to use the back touch screen to see your finger appear in the game to attack enemies on screen or move objects for your Messenger to climb upon. Or using the front touch screen to open prize boxes and to customise your Messenger.
The dual touch screens were a real innovation and the Vita tried to handle these in exciting ways with most games on the system.
