10 Reasons Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Soundtrack Was More Influential Than The Beatles
3. The Music Encourages The Listener To Exercise In A Fun Environment
The THPS soundtrack didn’t just encourage individuality and self-esteem; it also encouraged a healthy lifestyle. Many fans of this fantastic gaming franchise loaded their MP3 player with their favourite songs, picked themselves up a skateboard, and gave this hobby a go.
Skateboarding is great exercise, as well as being an extremely fun pastime. During the THPS era, the skateboarding community was huge. Anyone who took up the sport was bound to make new friends, get into better shape and learn new skills. The freedom that came from riding a skateboard through winding streets on the way to your local park was emphasised in the lyrics of your THPS songs of choice, as they blared from your headphones.
This music promoted improvements to both mental and physical health, which led to extending the lifespan of its loyal fans.
The Beatles, on the other hand, didn’t seem to care if their fans lived or died. They didn’t feature any of their music on sports-based video games at all during their tenure. Clearly they preferred for their fans just to do dangerous amounts of LSD. (Presumably so that they could pretend they were listening to nu-metal instead.) This would suggest that their only real influence was on the morgue.
