10 Recent Overhyped Video Games That Absolutely Flopped
5. No Man's Sky
The promise of No Man's Sky was astronomical. Near infinite planets to explore, the promise of online capabilities with other players and an ever expansive universe to explore. Developers, Hello Games, actively spent months hyping up the games ambition through interviews and social media, surely it couldn't live it up to the hype?
Spoiler alert: It didn't.
Upon release, the true colours of No Man's Sky reared their ugly head and players felt they were lied to about the end result of the game. All the promises made by Hello Games seemed to be built upon false ideas and ultimately, angered the player base.
The planets themselves were devoid of life and it seemed that not many variations actually existed out of a basic template. The gameplay loop quickly became a monotonous grind which proved very boring and provided very little incentive to advance.
Not only that, the promise of online was severely questioned as no one seemed able to find any other player online. Hello Games put this down to the universe being so large, but players weren't so easily convinced.
As of now, Hello Games has worked effortlessly to bring No Man's Sky to a respectable level and won back a lot of fans hearts, but it's no denying the initial release was a mess and broke a lot of anticipated hearts.
