While the Mass Effect series didn't end on the highest note — with a lacklustre conclusion at the end of Mass Effect 3 — fans around the world constantly showcase their love for the trilogy. It's a game franchise that's made its mark in the gaming world, creating some of the greatest single-player stories on the market.

When Mass Effect: Andromeda was announced, it's with no shock everyone bumped it up their list of most anticipated games.

By the time of release, fans could barely contain their excitement. The promise of a new story in the Mass Effect universe was too alluring and everyone was ready to dive in.

What was discovered, was a poor imitation of the Mass Effect series. The strong story telling from previous entries was poorly reconstructed here and in place was a heavier focus on action and open-world activities.

The planets themselves lacked any of the personality that previous entries had found and many consumers were quick to criticise the poor animations that in-game character models possessed.

Everything felt like a poor imitation and this reflected in the games sales, which were notably lower than previous entries. What should have been a spark to reinvigorate the series ended up getting lost in the depths of space.
