9. Crash Bandicoot - The High Road

Either the original or the remastered version of this level from the first Crash Bandicoot is a source of constant woe for players.

While the sequels perhaps catered to a younger, more casual audience, the original game was more focused on elements of 'classic' platforming. with The High Road level in particular encapsulating this.

Judging the depth of your jump on this level is particularly frustrating, as one mistake will send Crash plummeting to his death. Many platforms on the bridge are already broken, or will fall away as soon as Crash lands on them.

Crash has to use the turtle shells in certain sections of the bridge to jump over wider gaps. Unsurprisingly, using a deceased turtle as a trampoline to cross a rickety, broken bridge doesn't always work out well. All too often the player will land on a narrow platform, only to be annihilated by a turtle emerging from the mist.

The margin for error is small, and you can find yourself repeating the same section of the level multiple times. If this is platforming at its finest, it's also at its most frustrating.
