7. Everything About It - Silent Hill: Ascension

Silent Hill: Ascension is one of those games that just immediately has you questioning the intent - the sanity, even - of those who greenlit it. Konami's ongoing attempts to rejuvenate the flagging survival horror IP continued this past October with this interactive cinematic horror game-slash-TV series.

A sprawling, months-long episodic story revolving around a large cast of character being terrorised by manifestations of their trauma, Ascension was certainly an ambitious and intriguing idea, albeit one that fell completely flat in the execution.

As anyone who tuned in/played that opening episode will not-so-fondly remember, the experience was rendered a laughing stock from the jump through its risible dialogue, uneven voice acting, janky community-driven QTE and voting sequences, various bugs, and the immediately intrusive presence of microtransactions.

At best its was a crushing disappointment while at worst it actively damaged the Silent Hill brand, leaving fans irate that not insignificant resources were being devoted to such a poorly thought-out project.

Hell, Ascension's miraculously still going today, yet is destined to be remembered as the series' embarrassing low-point - so far, anyway.
