8. A Lacklustre Campaign - Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III
Much as even the worst Call of Duty campaigns have still managed to offer up a passable five-or-so hours of meat-and-potatoes action schlock, the wheels finally came off the enterprise with Modern Warfare III's dreadful story mode.
Even if you can forgive that it's less than four hours long, it consists primarily of warmed-over rehashes of the series' best set-pieces, combined with generic new "open combat" missions, where players can complete the formulaic objectives with a greater degree of freedom.
Call of Duty has never been this snoozy nor felt this lazy, making it incredibly easy to believe the oft-reported rumour that Modern Warfare III originally began life as a DLC expansion for Modern Warfare II before being reworked into a "full-fat" retail release.
The result was by far the worst-reviewed campaign in the series, enough that some pondered whether Activision should've bothered with a campaign at all. If the results are going to feel this tossed-off, what's the point?
