10 Refreshing Video Game Drinks We Need In Our Lives
6. Root Beer - Tapper
Now before we talk about how great the root beer in Tapper looks we need to acknowledge that it wasn't even always root beer.
Tapper was originally designed to be found in bars to advertise Budweiser. The game had a giant logo for the refreshment in it and the in-game drinks were of course implied to be you guessed it, Budweiser.
The controller for the game used to be an actual Budweiser beer tap handle but was later changed to just be a controller that looked like a beer tap handle, it still had the branding on it though.
The game was a hit and the developers over at Marvin Glass and Associates and the publishers Midway wanted to move the game to arcades. The problem was that they didn't exactly want to advertise alcohol to children, so they removed the Budweiser branding and changed the drink to the non-alcoholic root beer.
Whilst a Budweiser does sound great around now but I don't think you could exactly classify it as a "video game drink" so Tapper root beer it is. It's amazing that they manage to make a drink with so few pixels look so good.
