10 Ridiculous Ways Adverts Were Built Into Video Games

8. Final Fantasy XV's Love Of Cup Noodles

Square Enix

Final Fantasy XV was absolutely obsessed with Nissin Cup Noodles.

Not only did the game include an entire quest centred around the product itself (in which you're tasked with gathering ingredients to make the perfect cup), but characters will actively endorse the snack on multiple occasions, talking about how much they love them.

The game also included Cup Noodles-branded billboards, trucks, and food cups, and most hilariously, a giant wearable hat, which looked absolutely ridiculous when added to your character's outfit.

It was all a little silly, but fortunately, Square Enix and Nissin embraced that, with Gladiolus' Cup Noodles-speeches sounding like they were ripped from a cheesy TV commercial. The game itself is also quite irreverent, which gave this whole Cup Noodles fixation a charming, self-aware quality.

Still pretty shameless though.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
