10 Rivalries That Killed Video Games
6. Team Fortress 2 Vs. Team Fortress Classic
Video game fandoms abhor whenever a new title under the same genre enters the chat. It's a common occurrence - as is fans of the franchise debating which of the franchise is the best.
Many, for example, believed Grand Theft Auto IV as being above Grand Theft Auto V, touting a better cast, storyline, range of missions, and minor details. This goes both ways; GTA V preferers believe GTA IV's driving mechanics to be too floaty.
Fans of the Team Fortress franchise, too, have debated which is better, with the second incarnation typically dominating chatrooms. Praise goes to its pleasant gameplay and use of character, however, the former game perceives this as being too gruff in presentation, believing the vast new features to be unnecessary and "noobish".
Keep in mind, there was an almost decade gap between the two titles releasing, with the second being confirmed in 1998, before twice being delayed and a period of six years without any formal updates. Such development hell for a game that was eventually released is punishable by strongly-worded messageboard comments in today's era.
That it stands up to this day - and is still receiving regular Valve support - exemplifies the clear line drawn between it and its measly predecessor.
