10 RPGs With Ridiculously Weird Stories

10. Shadow Hearts

Developer: Sacnoth Platform: PlayStation 2 The premise: Shadow Hearts is the first in a fairly successful series, and probably the strangest. The game follows a 'Harmonixer' named Yuri Hyuga, who is thrown into an alternate version of the real-life conflicts that preceded World War I. It gets weirder: Everything in Shadow Hearts, from the unique narrative to the gameplay is totally bizarre. Much of the gameplay is based around stopping the hand of a clock on the correct coloured sections, and it's utilised in everything from the battles to shopping for items. The main character frequently obeys a shadowy voice in his head, and the entire game culminates in a battle against 'God' himself. Additionally, one of the main non-playable characters is Roger Bacon. As in, the real Friar and scholar from the 1200s, who has managed to keep himself alive for 700 years in the game.
