10 Scandals That DESTROYED Fallout 76

5. Nuka Cola Dark Rum

Bethesda

That data breach scandal came off the back of Bethesda misleading die hard fans who’d gone the extra mile to support the company by purchasing extra merchandise. That meant that letting these fans down was particularly harmful to Fallout 76’s public reception, and it’s a trick they decided, inexplicably, to repeat.

Targeting the adult gamers that make up a sizeable chunk of Fallout’s typical fanbase, they released a Nuka Cola Dark Rum collectible. The rum was advertised as coming in a rocket shaped bottle, giving it a rather cool and unique look.

However, in a rather fitting metaphor for Fallout 76 itself, the rocket shape was just a cheap plastic shell around an entirely normal bottle. Considering the drink was $80, people were expecting a lot more from Bethesda than what they got.

Production was delayed several times, leading some to speculate that perhaps at one point the bottles were supposed to be as advertised, but the shorter timescale forced a compromise.

To add insult to injury, the plastic wrap was slightly wrongly sized, so pouring resulted in spillages. For the cost, the quality was sorely lacking in almost every department.
