3. Chimera House - Red Dead Redemption 2

There’s a long list of possible choices for scary encounters in Red Dead Redemption 2. The Nosferatu-like vampire in Saint Dennis you can find by locating the epicenter of a series of vampire attacks. The serial killer you can track down that ultimately gets the drop on you.

But there’s been plenty of articles about those two - no, for me, the scariest thing to come across was the Chimera House just outside of the Van Horn Trading post.

Set in a small, idyllic forest clearing is a very nice two-story house. Like many buildings in the game, the doors are locked and inaccessible. However a second floor window is hanging open. If you figure out a way to climb just right, you can get onto the porch awning and climb into the window.

If you just glance through the window it’s difficulty to see anything inside - daytime makes the unlit room darker than outside, and nighttime - well...it’s even darker inside than out. But once you climb inside - you can see a gigantic chimera, which the Frankenstinian creator has dubbed the Immensa Creatura.

Sewn together from parts of a bear, a boar, a vulture, and a human - among other animals, the man made mutant, as Arthur calls it, is terrifying if you aren’t expecting it. And honestly, a little scary even if you are.
