10 Scariest Horror Video Games Of The 90s - Ranked
7. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
The third instalment in the Resident Evil series saw the games continue their shift away from simple zombies and put an increased level of focus on more monstrous creations, like the titular Nemesis. The game followed Jill Valentine as she attempted to escape the city while being relentlessly hunted by this seemingly unstoppable force.
Unlike the former two games, which mostly took place in tight, confined, indoor environments, Nemesis featured many more open areas, letting players roam the streets of Raccoon City and resulting in a more action-focused style of gameplay. This made the game a little less frightening than its predecessors, but Resident Evil 3 was still an eminently scary experience.
The encounters with Nemesis, in particular, were simply terrifying as players quickly realised that this was one foe they simply couldn't bring down with regular weaponry. Nemesis would appear time and again almost at random, throwing the player into a fit of panic and forcing them to flee. This ever-present, unpredictable threat haunted you throughout the game and was undoubtedly the scariest part of Resident Evil 3.
