10 Scariest Horror Video Games You Might Have Missed
7. Song Of Horror
Song of Horror is a relatively new entry to the world of survival horror, and it seems to have gone unnoticed by a lot of horror fans. It was released in episodes from Halloween 2019 until mid-last-year, and while it received favourable reviews, it just wasn’t talked about enough. The thing is, this is one game that horror fans absolutely must play!
It’s a gorgeous homage to horror gaming. Each chapter is set in its own creepy location; a haunted house and an abandoned monastery to name just a couple. Players also get to pick one of four characters to control, and once a character dies we can pick another. When all four are dead, it's game over.
The story is told from a third person, fixed-camera perspective, just like classic Resident Evil. Speaking of Resident Evil, the action begins on the 25th September 1998; the very same date that Raccoon City fell to the zombie apocalypse. Other easter eggs include a Tolua Lake fridge magnet and a name badge for Walter Sullivan (Silent Hill references) and Wake Publishing (Alan Wake). There are many more, and they’re always fun to find.
Horror homages aside, the plot sees us trying to uncover the mystery behind a cursed music box while being followed by a terrifying entity called The Presence. If you want atmosphere, tension, nostalgia and all-out terror, then this is for you.
