10 Secret Details That Answer HUGE Video Game Questions

5. Jeane's Backstory - No More Heroes (2007)

Originally released on the Nintendo Wii in 2007, ultra-stylish and ultra-violent No More Heroes follows protagonist Travis Touchdown as he fights his way to become the highest-ranking assassin after joining an elite organisation.

From its ludicrous plot to incredibly meta humour, this game never takes itself seriously, with Travis’s ordeal only getting more ridiculous as he rises through the ranks. This game’s lunacy comes into full force when the anti-hero comes face-to-face with Jeane, who’s revealed to be his half-sister and the one responsible for killing his parents during a purposefully cheesy monologue.

True to this game’s zany tone, Jeane refuses to tell Travis about her backstory when asked, explaining that it’s “too terrible” and would raise the game’s rating.

Players then watch Travis’s shocked expressions as Jeane tells her story in fast-forward, to avoid censorship.

While her dialogue is mostly unintelligible during this scene, it’s possible to hear her tragic origins by slowing down the footage. Doing so reveals that she swore to get revenge on Travis’s father after he abused her for years.

Although this scene is played as a gag when watched normally, this hidden detail sheds some harsh light on what’s otherwise a fun-filled game.
