10 Secret Ways Video Games Make You Feel Like A Badass

6. Pickup Priority And Auto-Grab

This one probably seems like common sense and a basic quality-of-life feature by this point to most gamers, but it’s not quite universal... yet.

Games that feature a manual item pickup system - normally by navigating your cursor or crosshairs over the item and pressing a button - often cause a great deal of frustration to gamers, and especially so when the action heats up and you’re there jamming the X button trying to grab a vital piece of pistol ammo in amongst a pile of useless junk.

That’s why some games have a hierarchy system implemented for item pickups - normally with health/lives being of optimal priority, then ammunition/weaponry, then junk/sellable items/collectibles. This way, if there’re a ton of items stacked on top of one another, you don’t have to swear loudly as you accidentally pick up another seven frying pans to get to the rifle ammo below.

In addition, some games grant a bit of leeway in positioning - you won’t have to be looking directly at the item for it to register as a priority item, and you’ll pick it up regardless.
