When people think of crazy quests in Skyrim, the first that comes to mind is the Deadric missions; such as the one where the player takes a hungover trip across the map after drinking with Sanguine or enters the mind of a dead emperor with Sheogorath.

However, even the simpler Skyrim quests can lead to some rather extraordinary circumstances, like the quest from the Dragonborn DLC called “Unearthed.”

The quest is activated by donating a little gold to Ralis Sedarys, who wants to hire some miners to excavate an ancient Nordic tomb.

The donation won’t do anything at first, but after a while, Ralis will send a letter asking for help disposing of some draugr that killed his newly acquired help. This begins a long chain of events where Ralis’s expedition will keep uncovering new parts of the tomb and unleashing another ancient danger, which you will then have to defeat, before Ralis asks you for even more gold to keep going.

The culminative point of the quest is when Ralis finally awakens a legendary dragon priest, Ahzidal, who turns everyone insane and makes them kill each other to escape from his tomb.

All of this happens because of one insignificant donation. That’s why it's important to donate to reputable charities only.
