10 SEGA Mega Drive Games That Deserve a 21st Century Overhaul

9. Streets Of Rage 1-3 (Genre: 2.5D Brawler)

One of the greatest side-scrolling brawler series ever created, Streets of Rage is still highly playable today. The simple plot of an evil mega villain taking over an entire city, and the brave cops that decided to take back control by punching and kicking their way to the top, was reused over and over, and we didn't get tired of it.

For a game with such little plot and character development, we still fell in love with the uniqueness of the heroes, their abilities and the memorable enemies.

A number of remakes and re-imaginings have appeared over the years – most frequently utilising the original engine and graphics but with updated plots, enemies and levels.

One went so far as to reimagine the series as a 2.5D brawler, with slick and updated graphics and controls, while returning us to the recognisable streets of a city overrun by thugs, in the familiar skins of Adam, Axel and Blaze.

Fans would insist the ridiculous plot remains the same and we see a return of our favourite weapons, boss fights and destructible environments, just with updated combos and improved longevity, perhaps by combining all three games (and their characters) into one.
