10 SEGA Mega Drive Games That Deserve a 21st Century Overhaul

2. Desert Strike: Return To The Gulf (Genre: Apache Simulator)

Desert Strike saw a single US helicopter take on multiple missions in a fictional Gulf state against the army of an evil dictator. It was very 'murica, but a lot of fun that required the player to destroy enemy installations, rescue hostages, and capture enemy personnel, while managing fuel and ammo.

With huge developments in graphics and physics engines since 1992, as well as a huge fan base for simulators, a modern update of Desert Strike would please a wide audience. Marketed as an Apache simulator, the game would maintain the militaristic setup while providing the player with their own Apache helicopter to carry out the missions.

While the game could be expanded to include out-of-helicopter moments, I'd personally like to see a remake stay true to the original, limiting the player to role of pilot.

Missiles, flares and pick-ups would all make a welcome return, but the game could add new features, from calling in back-ups, to preliminary planning that encourage the player to tackle missions in multiple ways.
