10 Shocking Incidents Where Video Games Led To Real Life Death

2. The Vietnamese Boy Who Killed A Grandmother To Fund His MMO

Another case of a massively multiplayer world having great ramifications for the people becoming fully immersed in them, as desensitised 13 year-old Dinh The Dan admitted he "needed money for online games and decided to kill and rob ". He did this in the most brutal fashion too, using a piece of rope to strange the woman to death. What's really shocking is just the brazen lack of empathy in his statement, and the fact that Dinh talks about his actions as if they were the logical conclusion to his problem. It doesn't stop there though, as in comparison to the previous Crookes murder, Dinh did not feel immediate remorse for his actions, choosing to bury the elderly woman's body in a mound of sand in his yard. The action itself stands out as something you'd expect a person who was pushed to the brink of sanity to do, even after they'd assessed the amount of money they were going to receive, but in the end all Dinh received in monetary terms was 100,000 dong (around $6.20) along with a stint in a 'reeducation camp' for his horrific actions.
