10 Simple Tweaks That Make Your Favourite Video Games Even Better
8. Hardcore Mode - Fallout: New Vegas
For as long as I'll live, I'll always champion the Hardcore Mode in Fallout: New Vegas as being the only way to play the game. Even though the developers actually make it clear in the menu that the option won't be the preferred way to play for everyone, it makes the experience overall so much richer that you should absolutely ignore that and go right ahead and choose it before starting a new game.
Basically, it adds a whole host of survival elements to the RPG that are balanced enough to add a hint of "realism" to the title without going totally overboard like Fallout 4's punishing survivalist difficulty. You'll have to balance hunger, thirst and sleep meters as standard which actually encourages scavenging.
In the base game, you can ignore a lot of the fluff in the world, to the point where even the slight health benefits that come from drinks and food are better off ignored. Hardcore not only makes these items more essential, but makes juggling your inventory that bit more stressful, as you need to weigh up these essential resources with guns and armour.
On top of this, stimpacks no longer heal instantly (like in Fallout 4) and a doctor's bag is required to fix broken limbs, which increases the risk/reward of combat. If you always wanted a bit more depth to Fallout's gameplay, then this is what you've been waiting for.
