10 Single-Player Video Games With Insanely Underrated Multiplayer Modes
4. Lost Planet
Lost Planet is one of the games that somehow, managed to go by the wayside. Was it a breakthrough game that everyone needed to play and experience? No. However, at its core this game had a fun, fast-paced multiplayer tucked away alongside a very solid campaign.
There were only four game modes, two of which were your basic deathmatch and free-for-all modes. The other two were Fugitive and Post Grab. Fugitive was, again, a free-for-all mode where one person was marked and everyone had to try and remove all the fugitive's points. Post Grab was essentially Headquarters for you Call of Duty fans out there.
Nothing too complicated, but the magic laid in the gameplay itself. Lost Planet featured a grappling hook, allowing your otherwise relatively slow character to traverse the terrain faster, and get up to higher areas. There'd be times where all you'd see were people zipping across from place to place as they tried to kill each other.
Another was the addition of 'posts' in other modes, which functioned as your radar. Without them you couldn't see where the enemy was, but if you managed to grab and take them away however, you would generate points, all while securing the advantage by blinding the opposition.
Atop this, you had to manage your thermal energy, which you gained from killing enemies and taking theirs. Without this you couldn't shoot guns that required it, and you also couldn't operate the game-changing mechs that would come into play every so often.
Lost Planet was a game that didn't play like others in the best of way possible, and once you had gotten the hang of it, you were in for a truly addictive experience.
