10 Small Video Games That Left HUGE Impacts
8. Call Of The Sea
When Norah arrives at a mysterious island in search of her husband, players are presented with a visually stunning and enticing world to explore the moment they set foot on the beach.
On first impressions, Call Of The Sea operates like your average puzzle game. Each chapter requires players to complete a central puzzle to progress which ranges from translating runes, cracking codes, and finding key items. But when players dive underneath the surface (sometimes literally), they'll discover a vast landscape and lore which oozes with dreamlike Lovecraftian overtones.
Each area has its own distinct visual colour palette which provides much of the atmosphere as players traverse deeper into the island, uncovering more of its central mysteries as they go.
But no matter how fantastical the adventure and discoveries become, Call Of The Sea remains grounded thanks to the central love story which constantly drives the plot forward.
Carried by a flawless performance by Cissy Jones as Norah, Call Of The Sea is a story about how far we'll go for the ones we love. Regardless of which of the two endings players choose, Norah's tale has a satisfying but bittersweet conclusion.
