10 Sports That Deserve Truly Great Video Games

1. Football

Football may not be lacking a game or two each year, but it is definitely lacking some serious quality. The competition that the FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer series' offer one another is minimal, with the external competition that the two of them face being simply non-existent.

Sales figures will obviously suggest that football is not lacking a successful video game or two as the FIFA and Pro Evo series' continue to rake cash in on a yearly basis. But think about what you're actually experiencing when you play these games? Do they really give you anywhere near the kind of excitement of playing or even watching professional football in real life?

Of course they don't, because they're always shoddy, broken products. After years and years of "improving" the same gameplay experience, neither series has managed to make physical battles player collisions look anything close to realistic. If games like Assassin's Creed can make a flying assassination and a crumpling victim look realistic, why can these football games manage to tackle a tackle?

The only change in recent years has been in implementing features like The Journey or Ultimate Team that are at best frivolous, at worst shameful money-grabbing endeavours. Our beautiful game deserves so much better.
