10 Starting Weapons In Games That Are Secretly Overpowered
1. The Wrench - BioShock
Despite its impressive collection of guns and plasmid powers, BioShock doesn't give you much in terms of melee combat. The basic wrench you start the game with is the only melee weapon in the game, but to be honest, you actually don't need another one.
Although the wrench's base damage is nothing to write home about, with the right plasmid powers and upgrades, it can be turned into the most powerful (and fun) weapon in the game.
The build in question utilizes plasmids that increase the wrench's damage and allow it to freeze enemies on a hit. This is already enough to elevate the wrench above most of your ranged weapons, but if you pair it up with shock powers that allow you to stun enemies around you and deal extra damage to them, the wrench becomes a killing machine.
At that point, BioShock turns into a stealth game, where you sneakily go from one stunned enemy to another and obliterate them with two taps of your overpowered wrench.
And it can fix your pipes too! Not that there's ever a need to do that in BioShock, but it's a nice bonus nonetheless.
