10 Starting Weapons In Games That Are Secretly Overpowered
6. Shotgun - Doom
The original Doom from 1993 gives the player quite the arsenal in order to splatter demons into tiny, pixel-y pieces. You've got missile launchers, flamethrowers, assault rifles, and even a crossbow.
And yet, the weapon you're most likely to find yourself using throughout most of the game is the classic pump-action shotgun that you get at the start of the game.
Although it's not as flashy (read: still very flashy) as the other options in your armory, the shotgun is known for its hidden potential as a versatile and consistent damage dealer. Unlike other weapons that are mostly situational, the shotgun can be used in pretty much any circumstance, and it will always yield amazing results.
Due to the spread of its shots, aiming it isn't very difficult, and the spray of bullets can down enemies with just a couple of shots.
But perhaps its greatest advantage and secret superpower is the ease with which you can resupply its ammo. Whereas other weapons run out of things to shoot relatively fast, the shotgun shells are in abundance on almost any map, meaning that you can shoot it indiscriminately and never run out of bullets.
