The Buster Sword is the signature weapon of Cloud Strife and one of the most recognizable items in Final Fantasy VII. For all of its legacy, however, most people still prefer to swap the sword for better weapons, as it's a starting weapon, and compared to blades like Hardedge or the Mythril Sabre, its damage output seems significantly smaller.

But what most people don't realize is that the Buster Sword is actually the best choice of weapon for Cloud to wield. There are just certain tweaks you have to apply to it first.

While the sword does deal less physical damage than other melee weapons, thanks to its scalability with magic and expanded modification slots, it works really well with a high magic stat, which Cloud just so happens to have.

The Buster Swords balance between physical and magic attacks complements Cloud's close and far-range battle stances, whereas using other swords will only allow you to make use of one of them. Seeing as Cloud's offensive spells can be even more destructive than simple physical attacks, not using the Buster Sword just feels like a waste of a perfectly designed synergy between Cloud and his famous, cartoonishly large blade.
