9. The "First" Easter Egg - Adventure

While nowadays we think of easter eggs as commonly a modern concept - cleverly referencing current culture and trends - this isn't to say it's a new concept.

In fact, the first known easter egg that we about goes as far back as 1976, in the text-based adventure Colossal Cave Adventure.

However, we tend to think of Adventure as containing the first video game easter egg, because it actually coined the phrase. It's an especially impressive feat, too, because said easter egg - which was creator Warren Robinett hiding his name in the game itself.

Now, this might not sound like much now, but it has to be remembered that this was done in a time where Atari didn't allow game creators to have their names anywhere on the game itself or even its packaging. As such, this was a sort of act of rebellion, showing that extra little features like this can actually serve important purposes sometimes.
