10 TERRIBLE Games That Got Great Reviews

4. Deathloop

Deathloop's Metascore of 88 seem to suggest it may be on-par with the finest works from Arkane Studios - especially the Dishonored games.

Yet as tantalising as its central premise is - of playing as an assassin caught in a time loop - Deathloop ultimately lacks the true freedom and exciting exploration of Arkane's better works.

From the overbearing amount of hand-holding - which might be an over-correction to complaints about Prey not giving the player enough help - to the disappointing linearity of the experience, poor AI, atrocious UI, and abrupt ending, it's a festival of head-scratching decisions.

In fact, the studio's Prey: Mooncrash expansion is basically a vastly superior proof-of-concept for Deathloop, which packaged the time loop idea into a more "commercial" framework when Prey flopped at retail.

For all of the bleating about Deathloop's innovative gameplay throughline, it's really just a shallow slog that wears out its already dubious welcome after a few hours.
