5. Micro-Transactions
What do you do when you're a multi-million dollar company and want to make even more money? Start charging people $2.99 to play a game on their mobile every month! This is what EA mobile decided to do with their Tetris game for iOS devices (you know what, that's pretty nifty; only charge the people who spend ridiculous amounts of money on an Apple product) which cost $0.99 to purchase. If playing Tetris wasn't fun enough (and come on, you're on Apple so you can't play Tetris for free; you HAVE to let other people know that you have more money than sense) you can also sign up for "T-Club" for $2.99 a month or an annual fee of $29.99 which exclusive offers such as premium Tetris challenges (as if clearing the lines and seeing how long you can last wasn't fun enough!) and a booster to get a higher online rank. I single Tetris out for micro-transactions purely to show how ludicrous the whole thing is and how people are fueling EA by purchasing things like this. Tetris is one of those games that you can download, for free within seconds and start playing; yet people are happy to throw money at EA in order to play this simple yet fantastic game? It's one thing paying EA their ridiculous prices for the latest games, they're the largest video game publisher in the world and quite a few large titles pass through their paws. However it's another thing paying them small amounts of cash for free games or worthless add-ons, we need to stop doing this!
