3. DLC
I've been trying to pin-point which person first came up with the idea of DLC for quite a while now and a small part of my mind likes to think that it's either a current or past emplo--oh let's be honest if it was an EA employee he or she would probably still be with them in a gold-plated office. Still, if there's one company that uses DLC a tad too much it would have to be EA. Not only do they decide to chop games up to increase the amount of money they make but they seem to have a habit as of late of releasing DLC on the day the game is released--and charging people--who bought the game--on the day of release. Let's look at the case of Mass Effect 3's day one DLC; Bioware and EA both claimed that the hidden character was worked on after the game had been completed however one fan managed to hack his simple copy and obtain said character. This led to a rush of press releases from EA claiming how the DLC wasn't just about obtaining an additional character but that the "plot of ME3 is so richly interwoven with the character interactions". So if you did end up buying the DLC on the day of release look on the bright side, you weren't paying for just Javik; you were paying for the 5 minute mission to unlock his character and those few lines of text and audio clips that pass for his quirky "hilarious" remarks. I'm sure it was Bioware we have to blame there of course, EA would never purchase a developer studio and then get their hands mixed in the game's development purely to turn a profit; perish the thought!
