4. Far Cry 2
What We Expected: Another intense shoot 'em up in which players will now have to navigate the African savannas as opposed to the tropical rain-forests of the first game.
What We Got: One of the most boring and utterly uninspired video game sequels of all time. Though the graphics are great and the AI is even more fiendish than it was in the first game, Far Cry 2 completely bored me to tears, to the point that I never got more than a few hours into it. The main issue for me was the sheer amount of time it took to do anything: travelling to any objective typically takes a few minutes by car and forever on foot, and this quickly becomes repetitive. A quick-travel option (and I'm not counting the bus you can use) could have potentially saved the game, but that's not to forget the myriad other problems that plague this title. I'm talking about the obvious and irritating enemy respawns, where if you move a certain amount of distance from a checkpoint, any outpost will be "reset", restoring all the enemies you just killed. This was enough for me to put the game down and never play it again: it's just Ubisoft being lazy and making us do lots of busy-work to make the game seem longer. Infuriating. At least the third game was a significant improvement on this trash.
