10 Terrible Video Games With Incredible Endings
5. Rogue Warrior (2009)
First-person shooter Rogue Warrior had a seriously troubled development cycle. Bearing no relation to the classic 1992 autobiography by Richard Marcinko, the game was initially developed by independent American developers Zombie Studios. Bethesda, dissatisfied with Zombie's progress, then took the game the game away from the company, gave it to British developers Rebellion Developments, and essentially told them to make a completely new title.
The end result is a video game that is never far away from a list of the worst titles that ever saw the light of day. With its storyline of Marcinko infiltrating North Korea and disrupting ballistic missile launchers, the game suffers from awful controls, stripped-back features, poor graphics and a whole slew of glitches.
But, it's ending is pretty good.
Having been told he is facing a court-martial for disobeying orders, Macinko's final acts in the game involve blowing up a palace containing a bunker of missiles, and destroying a Soviet submarine. Saving the day in such a showy way is one thing, but the closing shot of Macinko clearing his name by handing over the computer chip containing all the information needed to sort out his court-martial hearing is an extra dose of satisfaction for palyers.
