10 Terrifying Horror Video Games Coming In 2016

9. Routine

Four years of human life equates to about an eternity in video game years. In the time since space-based horror game Routine was announced in 2012, we've seen the releases of two highly successful game with similar ideas in Alien: Isolation and Soma, raising the question of whether it will add anything new to the genre.

So, what makes Routine stand out? Well, it's got a neat 80s vibe going on, with clunky CRT monitors and a saturated VHS aesthetic. You traverse an abandoned moonbase, populated only by malevolent androids and some kind of extra-terrestrial (or supernatural?) creature out to get you, and you're alone, under-equipped, and very much stranded.

Admittedly, it does sound quite a lot like Alien: Isolation, but that was a few years ago now and we enjoyed that, so why shouldn't we be excited about a similar kind of experience? Routine also has a touch of Outlast about it, as you rely on a stun gun with a small night-vision screen to navigate your way through the dark, murky bowels of the base.

In late 2015, we got an update that development was still underway, so here's hoping we'll see it by the end of the year.
