10 Terrifying Horror Video Games Coming In 2016

2. System Shock Remake

There's been quite a bit of confusion about what exactly is going on with System Shock's future, with Night Dive Studios having acquired the rights to the series back in 2013. So the story is this: Night Dive Studios recently released a remastered version of the original System Shock, which isn't what we're talking about here. There is also a System Shock 3 in development, headed by Warren Spector's studio Otherside Entertainment in collaboration Night Dive, which likely won't come out in 2016, and also isn't what we're talking about either.

No, the System Shock Remake in question here is the original game revamped using the Unity Engine, bringing the classic space horror screaming into the current generation. Resource management, puzzle-solving and ability-boosting Dermal patches will all be crucial to your survival, as you attempt to outfox the legendary evil AI, SHODAN.

For the uninitiated, System Shock sees you play a hacker on a space station that's been taken over by the aforementioned AI. The inhabitants of the station have all been turned into mutants or cyborgs, and you'll need to navigate your way through them to hack SHODAN and quash her plans of world domination.

The remake seems to have almost the same level design as the original game, albeit with a makeover that should recapture that suspense and fear we felt when first playing the original all those years ago.
