7. The Gatherers - Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Few independent PC games have had such an impact in recent years as 2010's Amnesia: The Dark Descent. A tale involving cosmic beings, memory loss, mutation and deception, Amnesia popularised the current trend of survival horror games where running and hiding is the only way to survive the game, all the while toying with the player's (and character's) sanity. Amnesia pits you against a castle full of deformed humanoids known as The Gatherers as you work your way through the game's story. These creatures feature deformed faces, bodies, claws and generally look about as appealing as a bout of dysentery.
