5. Bloodborne - Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos
It would remiss to generalise Bloodborne as a horror game and say, "Pick any boss. They're all gross".
You've got the Bloodstarved Beast, The Amygdala, or even the barnacle-ridden Witch of Hemwick to get you started. But special mention goes to Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos for this one.
Looking like a mass of jellied eels come to life, Ebrietas adds extra terror by being extraterrestrial. By that I mean she can fire space lasers from her... let's go with "head", shall we.
But what really, really seals the deal as "terrifying horror monster" is when she bum-rushes you from across the screen. It's not uncommon for beasties in Bloodborne to do this, with the game favouring fast-paced combat.
Yet when this squishy monstrosity does it, it's pure nightmare fuel.
She may have an exotic name, but the only thing tropical about her is deciding what disease she looks like she manifests.
Again, it's par for the course for Bloodborne to be terrifying and gross. It's literally its theme. Ebrietas though, she's something else.
Taking that grossness and amplifying it into this boss monster was enough to freak me out.
