10. That Magical Introduction Sequence

"Every great idea begins with a spark of imagination", the narrator tells us as we fire up the Disney Infinity game for the first time. And you're instantly surrounded by that unmistakeable Disney magic. Let's be honest, when it comes to creating enchanting entertainment, these guys have been doing it better than anyone else for longer than anyone else. There's something simple yet beautiful about the way this game begins - your spark of imagination floats around in the darkness of space, and as you move it around with your analogue stick you notice small glowing blue orbs start to follow you, being absorbed into you as you grow. Collect a few more orbs, and your spark swells and explodes in a shower of shimmering light against the starry backdrop. It's truly mesmerizing stuff, and it only gets better from there. You're transported to an imaginary land which grows and develops as you move, cartoon trees and plants and grasslands popping up out of the darkness. It's a stunningly crafted piece of game design, so cleverly put together that you don't even realize you're being led - it feels like the world is being formed under your feet, like your imagination is the source of the creation. Eventually it turns into a more predictable tutorial of sorts, but in that moment, as the fairytale music and sparkly lighting effects spin and twirl around you, its hard not to be utterly entranced.
