10 Things Everybody Hates About AMAZING Video Games
1. Aloy Talks Too Much - Horizon
The Horizon games certainly aren't the only AAA offender in this regard, but they might be the most egregious. Days Gone is pretty bad with it too, but c'mon - it's far from an amazing game.
Horizon Zero Dawn was, despite its beautiful world and incredible combat, pervasively dragged for the abundance of spoken dialogue trivially spouted by protagonist Aloy during gameplay.
Aloy will regularly open her mouth to remind players of a point-of-interest in the vicinity, and while you could simply persuade yourself that this is her inner monologue, within the reality of the game it suggests that Aloy spends a whole lot of time talking to herself out loud.
Despite the vocal complaints, Guerrilla Games basically doubled down on the issue for the recent sequel Horizon Forbidden West, reuniting us with a chatterbox Aloy who ceaselessly jabbers about basically everything in your sightline (and not).
Much like God of War's puzzle-spoiling problem, there's no conceivable reason why players couldn't just toggle between different dialogue increments, or even none at all, because Aloy talks so damn much there's a good chance you'll start looking wistfully back to the halcyon days of silent protagonists.
We get that Guerrilla want to make sure players bond with Aloy, but does she really need to have a comment or opinion about every damn thing in the game? It's not charming - it's annoying.
