10 Things We Learned From The Titanfall Beta

9. The Smart Pistol Is The "Noob" Weapon Of Choice

The first weapon you're given during the training levels is the Smart Pistol, a gun which has the ability to lock on to an enemy target, and in the event of a successful lock-on (indicated by red circles), deliver a one-shot kill. Players can even line up multiple targets at once and kill three or four enemies with one button click. It's fair to say that this is the "noob" weapon of choice, though Respawn were smart to balance it so that players cannot just wreak havoc with impunity. Basically, the Smart Pistol is extremely efficient at killing enemy AIs (called Minions), because they tend to stay in one position a lot longer than a human player. Against other players, though, it's really not worth the hassle: players tend to jump around and rarely keep still, so earning a kill with the SP is not so easy. My personal tip is to use the SP to kill as many minions as possible early on in a game in order to get access to your Titan faster, but after that, stick to rifles and so on, because you'll probably want to focus your attention on human players for a far bigger point reward.
